PULSE

On the way to the waterside, I was passed by at least 8 joggers. The weather was great. Not to warm, not too cool. Just like PULSE this year. It was a pretty good show, but not great (like VOLTA) or mixed (Armory). There were no lines when I arrived. Folks were friendly (a reoccurring theme on this trip) and the art contained quite a bit of irony and humor. One of the first things you see once inside is a huge pigeon statue (Welcome to NYC!) at the end of the first row by The Glue Society.

Lots of well behaved, curious kiddies at the fair this year.

There's a little man crapping on this pigeons head.
When I saw this I knew I'd enjoy Pulse this year.

The plaque reads, "I heard they're dirty." Made me grin.

One thing I like about the non-Armory fairs is that they don't require an entire day and Tylenol to enjoy/view. Although, the food choices leave a lot to be desired. PULSE did have quite a bit of seating in the food area that afforded a view of Kristian Kozul's installation of a sequined bucking bronco saddle shown by TZR Gallery.

Along the side wall was Penelope Umbrico's, Suns from Flickr being presented by Randall Scott Gallery (which just pulled up from DC and moved to Brooklyn, sigh).

I had the pleasure of meeting photographer Lizabeth Eva Rossof at the Paul Kopeikin booth (one of my favorite galleries). She had an accent I couldn't place (I am from the south after all) and a great demeanor.

Lizabeth Eva Rossof's Fuck You
It's in braille using candy dots that she bit off while wearing lipstick, saucy!

I would always ask if I may take a picture before snapping away (if it was at a booth) and I wish I had a dollar for every reply of, "Sure, and thank you for asking." A little goes a long way. While the facilities were not so great this year (ice cold water in the bathrooms, some tripping hazards with cords, etc), the art was interesting, sometimes humorous, and (mostly) varied in medium and concept. I enjoyed my visit and plan to attend next year (if I don't go to Miami).

Here's a few more artists whose work I enjoyed at this fair.
