A Form of Cruelty
Yes, this was the description one patron used to describe the extreme lack of seating at the Armory show. It was awful. My feet still hurt. The show itself was alright but I was hoping for more. Nothing terribly new or mind blowing, all safe, "living room sized" works (unlike the Biennial, more on that later). I took notes...lots of them. I will be highlighting artists whose work I enjoyed (and had a high level of craftsmanship) over the next few weeks. It's really amazing that people with money to burn would spend 75K on something that looks like a rejected art school project. There were quite a few works whose craftsmanship was extremely poor. Not to mention the high "cheese" factor, ie. manikin arms holding tools for 180K? Eh. I did see Chuck Close pass by. :D More later.
